Reconfiguring the Q-Port™3 for Windows 8.1

Microsoft recently released Windows 8.1 which is an update to the Windows 8 operating system. While the update is not required, if you choose to download Windows 8.1 you should be aware that the Q-Port™3 will need to be reinstalled.

Upon installing Windows 8.1 you will notice that the Q-Port™3 is no longer recognized by your computer. In order to solve this problem you will need to repeat the configuration and driver installation process according to these instructions:

CONFIGURATION (Windows 8.1):

From your Windows Start Menu, move your mouse to the upper right part of the screen. A side menu will pop up. Select the “Settings” icon.

Next, select “Change PC Settings” at the bottom of the menu.

From the left-hand side of the screen, select “Update and recovery” and then "Recovery." On the right-hand side of the screen select “Restart Now” from the “Advanced Startup” section. Your computer will need to restart. Make sure these instructions are either printed out or available to you on another device while your computer restarts.

After a short time a menu will appear. From this menu select:

“Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart”

The computer will now restart and a boot menu will appear. From this menu choose “Disable Driver Signature Enforcement” by pressing the “7” button on your keyboard. Now your computer is ready to install the Q-Port™3.

Before installing the Q-Port™3 device on your computer, make sure the IQS™3 Software Disc is inserted and that your Q-Port device is connected to your computer.

Navigate to your desktop screen and right click the “Computer” icon. Select “Manage” from the dropdown menu which appears to access your device manager. If you are using a Windows 8 computer you may also locate your device manager by scrolling over the bottom left-hand corner of your desktop, right-clicking and selecting “Computer Management”. The “Device Manager” will be located in the left-hand column.

Once you have opened your device manager you will see a list of devices associated with your computer appear in the middle column. Locate and right-click the “IQS” device found under “Other” devices. Then, select “Update Driver Software…”

A window will open asking if you would like to do an auto-search or browse your computer for the software. Select “Browse”

Locate the “Device Drivers” folder by selecting “Computer > IQS3 Software > IQS3 Installation Files > Device Drivers”. Select “OK” and “Next”

An alert will appear warning you that the publisher of the driver software cannot be verified. Click “Install Driver Anyway”

Once you have successfully installed the driver software for the Q-Port™3, open the IQS™3 program. Select “Tools > Program Options > Probe Settings > Auto Detect”. Doing this allows the IQS™3 program to locate the port where the Q-Port is connected. Click “OK”
